Life is full of remarkable moments and experiences, but not everyone gets to live a life that they truly love. Too often people feel like something is missing or that they’re not living up to their potential, and they feel lost.
The truth is that we all have the power to experience a remarkable life. If you want to build a remarkable life that you love then there must be a strong connection between your dreams, goals, and habits; it’s only by uniting these three elements that the life you desire will be achieved.
“All of us have a life that is remarkable but not everyone lives a life that they love.”
– James Bryant, Ph.D., PE
Dreams
Dreams are our deepest desires—they are what keep us going even in the darkest times. Having dreams is like having an internal compass that helps guide us towards our goals. When we actively pursue our dreams and take steps towards achieving them, it gives us a feeling of accomplishment which can lead to greater satisfaction in life. While some people may think dreaming big is foolish or unrealistic, some research has shown that those who pursue their dreams are more likely to be successful than those who do not dream at all or have dreams and fail to pursue them.
Do you have Dreams?
Are you currently pursuing your dreams?
Another benefit of dreaming is that it encourages people to explore different possibilities for their future. It gives individuals something positive to strive for and provides them options when things don’t go as planned.
Goals
A goal is an objective or target that someone is trying to reach or achieve. Goals are the action steps we take to get closer to those dreams. Some people have general ideas of what they want to accomplish but do not take the necessary steps to turn those ideas into goals.
The first step is to set a goal that is SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-bound). The second step is to break it down into smaller goals that are specific and measurable. The third step is to break it down into tasks that are manageable for you. The fourth step is to take action on your tasks with the help of the SMART goal setting strategy!
Habits
Habits refer to our day-to-day decisions; these may seem small now but eventually add up and become part of who we are as individuals. Our habits dictate what we do and who we become. If you want to change your outcome, then you will need to change your habits.
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
– Aristotle
There are several great books that provide insight into the science behind our habits and how to leverage habits to help achieve success: Atomic Habits – James Clear; Mini Habits – Stephen Guise; and Tiny Habits – BJ Fogg, Ph.D.
